Questions Related to mth model

Provided By Y! Answers

Are there any Model Railroaders out there that collect MTH Illinois Central passenger trains?
Question:
I collect "O" Gauge MTH Illinois Central Cars and engines. I presently have a set of ABA E6's and E8's. and a full consist for each engine set. I also have a Rail King RS2 and about 20 cars of various road names. Has anyone had quality issues with their MTH Engines? I have had the E6's and E8's in the shop at MTH.

Answer:
Trainorders.com, which requires a modest subscription fee to be active on, is an excellent source. Otherwise it is free to scan around. Go to their 'Model Railroads' forum. http://trainorders.com Also check out < Trainweb.com > for a model railroad forum. http://trainweb.com

Downloading PS2 Upgrades by MTH (Model Trains O gauge)?
Question:
What do you do if the screen says there is no engine on the track? (All connections are good and in place.) Screen also says be sure engine address is not 0...........??? Up grade kit is new, so would it even have an address? Johnnie Choo Choo

Answer:
First thing, did you put a PS2 kit in correctly, it is just not a download from PS1, I would put a MTH engine that is Proto 2 factory installed and see if it will start up correctly on your layout eliminating the questions of bad connections and poor signals. The second thng I would wonder about is when a PS2 kit again as installed did you do it correctly and did you download a correct sound file for your engine, which controls more than just sounds but some operations as well. Third, check with the o gauge magazine site on the internet and also pose your question, there is vast well of knowledge there to help you out. Lastly, if everything else fails send or take your engine to a good MTH service center like Stockyard Express in Oberlin Ohio for help.

Algebraic model: mth 111 help?
Question:
Write an algebraic model for the piecewise defined function for total monthly expenses as a function of the # of units produced. Monthly expenses include $3 for variable cost of ea. unit as well as $5,000 for ea. store needed. Each store can produce 8,000 units. First make a table using the following number of units: 1,000 ; 4,000 ; 10,000 ; 14,000. Assume max possible number of units is 16,000. Write the algebraic model. I made the table: Units / cost ----------------- 1,000 / 8000 4,000 / 17,000 10,000 / 40,000 14,000 / 52,000 but I get confused on the equation because of the 2nd store. Please help? Thanks!

Answer:
A key feature of a piecewise function is that it is not continuous. Observe what happens at 8000, 8001. The cost jumps from 29000 to 34003. You have to define the function two different ways for two domains. f(x) = 5000 + 3x; for the domain 0 <= x <= 8000 f(x) = 10000 + 3x; for the domain x > 8000

Ford Focus, 2009 200/mth, 3000 down, (best model) good deal?

Answer:
It's a good deal if you have $3000 to put down! Hopefully you're only paying $200 a month for about 6 months, because anyhting more than that is just ridiculous. The Focus isn't too expensive of a car, even the brand new ones. I'd think that your monthly payments would be less per month if you're putting $3000 down though....Think your options through carefully. And keep in mind that as soon as you drive your brand new car off the lot, it's worth thousands of dollars less than what you'll be paying for it.

a. write mathematical model for total mth cost, C, in terms of x for following:?
Question:
club offers 2 options, #1$42mth fee plus $5 hour for court rental, #2 no mthly fee but $8.50/hour for court rental option 1: C= option 2: C= b. how many hrs would you have to rent the court so the mthly cost of option 1 is less than option 2? set up an inequality and show your work algebraically using information in part a.

Answer:
(a) option 1: C = 42 + 5x option 2: C = 8.50x (b) 42 + 5x < 8.50x 42 < 3.50x 12 < x You would have to rent the court for more than 12 hours so that the monthly cost of option 1 is less than option 2. So, you would have to rent the court for at least 13 hours. Hope that helped!

My husband loves model trains, He needs the manual for a Pensilvania #7609 engine & service car, made by MTH.?

Changing the number on a model train?
Question:
I've got a N&W (Norfolk and Western) MTH O Gauge Steam Engine numbered 612, but I'd like to change it to 611. Is there any way I can do this myself? Or should I try to find a professional to do it?

Answer:
Here is a link to O-Scale Decals for N&W steam locomotives: http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Stor e_Code=MD&Product_Code=48-78 I'm not sure how MTH numbers their locos: with paint or decals. If it's a decal, I'd just gently pick the old decals off with an X-acto blade. If it's paint, you can usually "erase" the paint with an old type-writer eraser (white). EDIT: You might be able to find matching background paint here: http://www.testors.com/category/133505?n=1 I've renumbered a dozen UP Diesels and hundreds of freight cars so I don't have repeating numbers on my N-scale layout. GOOD LUCK and feel free to follow up if you have further questions.

I want to buy a new car. I want a hatchback, don't mind a manual. will be financing it.Ottawa Canada, $300/mth
Question:
I plan to give the carto my daughter in 3 years when she goesto school. Any suggestions on great deals available now. I would also consider a new car thatwas last year's model.

Answer:
The Saturn Astra is a nice-looking hatchback, and you should be able to get it for around $300 a month. The Honda Fit is also a good little car as is the Nissan Versa. The Toyota Yaris is ok, but I keep hearing bad things about them.

Can anyone give me advice for an O gauge, scale layout model railroading?
Question:
Okay I have a rather small layout 6' by 5'2 " indoor layout, double tracked. 2 mth sets, and 1 lionel hobo set. What should I get next? Should I jump into the scenery or locomotives, track, accessories (etc)? Please help me! thanks

Answer:
Before your layout becomes a pot of rail noodles, take the time to figure out what you are going to do for scenery. Is it going to be a desert, a mountain, a city? Deciding on that can help you plan ahead for what buildings to purchase/if you are going to make the layout any larger with track. One popular trick is to block off about 3/4 of the layout on one side with a piece of wood about 1-3' high, and put different scenery on both sides, this makes it easier to have a town on one side, and a desert or mountain on the other. Hope this helps you some, also if you have a tunnel, make shure that you can get easy access to a train if it derails/a car comes off the train. Hope this helps you somewhat in your model layout, they are extremely fun to have. My parting tip is this, make it your own and take your time :)

MTH & LIONEL QUESTIONS?
Question:
I want to buy a MTH or Lionel train set. Please keep all my questions simple, I am new to model trains. 1. Do the model trains have battery's or is there electricity in the railroad? 2. Can you connect Lionel freight cars to an MTH locomotive? (or connect MTH to Lionel) 3. If I buy a train set, would I be able to buy more freight cars, tracks, and replace the freight cars that came with the train set with new ones? 4. Which is more cheap? 5. What is the difference between gauges? Which is better, the O gauge or the N gauge, why? (I don't want G gauges because I heard they're toys and made of plastic.) 6. What is a good train set for $200 or under. (O gauge) 7. Do tracks come with a train set?

Answer:
1. Do the model trains have battery's or is there electricity in the railroad? Lionel makes some battery operated trains but most are powered by the track. MTH to my knowledge is all track powered. 2. Can you connect Lionel freight cars to an MTH locomotive? (or connect MTH to Lionel) Yes 3. If I buy a train set, would I be able to buy more freight cars, tracks, and replace the freight cars that came with the train set with new ones? Yes 4. Which is more cheap? That depends on the quaility you're looking for. Lionel is more common and seems to be reasonable on the secondary market (ebay). 5. What is the difference between gauges? Which is better, the O gauge or the N gauge, why? (I don't want G gauges because I heard they're toys and made of plastic.) MTH and Lionel don't make N scale products. Common scales for model trains are G, O, S, HO, N and Z, the size get smaller as you go from G to Z. Each has pros and cons. G takes up a lot of room but most of it will hold up outside so it gets used in garden railways. I had one in the backyard a few years ago. Some of it is toy like but this scale lends itself to scratchbuilding. I used to make my own cars out of wood. The scale varies from 1/32 to 1/20 with several variations. http://www.flickr.com/photos/22021033@N06/30111910 86/ O scale is 1/48 or one foot represents 48 feet in real life. It's been around a long time is still popular. It does take up a lot of room. HO is about half the size of O scaling out to 1/87. HO stands for "half O". It's the most popular scale, has lots of items available, and can be modeled in a realatively small area. Layouts on a 4X8 sheet plywood are common. N is about half the size of HO at 1/1160 scale. This is a newer scale dating back to the 60's. I have quite a large N scale collection. You can have a fairly decent layout in a small space. Using a door for layout is common. Most items in HO scale are also available in N scale. The small size allows for modeling longer trains. http://www.flickr.com/photos/22021033@N06/3135636578/ Z scale is the newest scale. It's 1/220 about 3/4 the size of N scale. It would be great for someone with only a coffee or end table for a layout. Items tend to be pricey and I doubt my eyes could take it for long. 6. What is a good train set for $200 or under. (O gauge) I'm not sure what the quaility level is going to be this price range in O scale. I think I would look at Bachmann On30 sets. (On30 trains are O scale but run on HO track, these are narrow gauge trains. It would take too much to explain it here but do a search on "narrow gauge" online. There is plenty of info out there) These appear to be OK. I have some Bachmann Spectrum locomotives in N scale that are top notch. Make sure it's the Spectrum line. Lionel also makes O scale set but at this price range you may be buying trouble. 7. Do tracks come with a train set? If it's a set then it will come with an engine, cars, transformer and tracks. They usually spell it out for you on the box. Good luck and hope this helps.
