What did a 1970 Mach 1 weight compared to 86 corvett ? Question: My dad had 70 or 71 Mach 1 that he used to drag all the time, with semi slicks and a tuned 429 cobra jet hes best was 12 something or 11.9 I think he said over the years, my buddy has a 86 vet that has flowmaster exaust and board to 355 perfectly tuned what would you think his 1/4 time would be? The mustang had more hp but his car weighs alot less Answer: There are too many factors to consider. Weight, horsepower, suspension, driver, rubber, surface, temp/humidity etc. Couldn't even begin to guess. My 72 Mach 1 (351 Cleveland 4V) launched cleaner and quicker than my 68 Charger 440 R/T could ever manage - irrespective of the amount of power and the suspension mods I've done to the Charger. I twist the chassis a little and the spring winds up a little and then everything wants to go back into place and I get tramping. It slows me down but the (feeble in comparison) Mustang just launched like nothing else - and I spent dick on it (apart from the motor). |

70 chevelle vs 86 grand national? Question: which one would win in a 1/4 mile run a 1970 chevelle 502 big block or an 86 buick grand national (with the 3.8 v6 twin turbo) its an argue ment just tryn to settle? thaks and could you throw in some 1/4 times if you have them, thanks Answer: It's a question with no real info so no real answer Who wins a race has ALOT more to do with it than just engine and horsepower.. Drop a 1,000 HP race engine into a stock chassis/suspension car and I bet you a dollor to a donut ANY new car with atleast 6 cyl engine will beat it. Just due to smiple fact the car aint prepped for the power and wastes all the power flexing the chassis, and spinning the tires The 502 was never a factory car engine The 70 chevelle SS had a 454 big block making 450 HP stock. It ran 13.6 to 13.8 @ 98.5 to 104 MPH 1/4 mile The 86 grand nat had 235 HP, and ran 13.9 @ 99 mph 1/4 mile. BTW the grand nat was a single turbo setup not twin The factory 502 is pretty sad really. It was used in fleet and service vehicles in the late 80's and early 90's, had only 325-338 HP Now aftermarket crate engine 502's range from 350 HP to 550 HP |

86 Camaro swapped w/350, location of oil pressure switch? Question: I swapped my stock 305 with a 350, the engine is rebuilt with an edelbrock performer carburetor, 600cfm, after market headers, it's loud (no exhaust yet just headers). Any tips on how to quiet it down? Also, on the stock 305 engine there were 2 sensors on the block, one for oil pressure and other for coolant. The 350 engine is a 1970 year. Where are these sensors located so that I can purchase the right ones? Answer: the oil sensor is on drivers side of the block clear in the back by distriburator and if you put an exhaust system on that car with mufflers it will automatically quiet down. |

400 in a 86 camaro iroc z28? Question: Chevy 400 (6.6L) was made from i think 1970-1980. A lot of variation in terms of performance. Looking to buy a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro z28 on craigslist. The guy put in a 400 engine into this 86 camaro. He took the engine out of a late 70's Chevy truck. Has shorty headers, a new cam and lifters with 3.55 gears. 700R4 transmission and rearend. According to many, the best possible 400 engine produces 265 horsepower and tons of torque. The same people say some 400's produce only 170 horsepower, but still tons of torque. Say this car does only produce 170 horsepower but a lot of torque, what do you expect the 1/4 mile time is. Cuz Im not buying a v8 just cuz its got a loud noise. With the setup this guy has, is this car fast compared to a camaro with a 5.7L 350 V8. Which would win in the quarter mile drag? Answer: These engines are the same guessing that you are speaking of small block Chevy engines. The only difference is the 400 has a larger bore and a longer stroke. The remainder such as heads, cams, carbs etc. are peripherals which can be interchanged readily. All else being equal, the larger engine will make the most power. You could of course hop up a 350 so that it would make more power than a certain 400 but you could then hop up the 400 so that it would make more power than the 350. As I said, All else being equal, the larger engine will make the most power. There is no magic to a 4 " bore or a 3.48" stroke or a 5.7" rod. None whatsoever. |

Why do four Mormon Missionaries trained the Nazi Basketball Team before the Olympic Games in 1936 in Berlin? Question: I found this statement at the Internet: When missionaries played a series of exhibitions against several German army teams in the-mid-1930s, Reich sports officials asked the Mormons to help prepare the German team. Not only did they eagerly undertake that assignment, but records of the German-Austrian mission indicate that four missionaries “officiated” the games (Scharff s 1970, 86). Source: http://www.thefoyer.org/viewtopic.php?p=105465&sid=988ae0bcc6d562 9d68a54a5f... Answer: From the April 1942 General Conference of the Church, from no lower than the first presidency. It addresses those who would be called to fight for their country, whatever country it would be. I'd say the same ideas work for those called to participate in a less bloody fashion. http://www.lds.org/pa/display/0,17884,4889-1,00.html "Obed ient to these principles, the members of the Church have always felt under obligation to come to the defense of their country when a call to arms was made; on occasion the Church has prepared to defend its own members. " ... "But all these commands, from Sinai down, run in very terms against individuals as members of society, as well as members of the Church, for one man must not kill another as Cain killed Abel; they also run against the Church as in the case of securing land in Zion, because Christ's Church should not make war, for the Lord is a Lord of peace." ... "But the Church membership are citizens or subjects of sovereignties over which the Church has no control. The Lord Himself has told us to "befriend that law which is the constitutional law of the land"" ... "While by its terms this revealed word related more especially to this land of America, nevertheless the principles announced are worldwide in their application. and they are specifically addressed to "you" (Joseph Smith), "and your brethren of my church." When, therefore, constitutional law, obedient to these principles, calls the manhood of the Church into the armed service of any country to which they owe allegiance, their highest civic duty requires that they meet that call. If, harkening to that call and obeying those in command over them, they shall take the lives of those who fight against them, that will not make of them murderers, nor subject them to the penalty that God has prescribed for those who kill, beyond the principle to be mentioned shortly. For it would be a cruel God that would punish His children as moral sinners for acts done by them as the innocent instrumentalities of a sovereign whom He had told them to obey and whose will they were powerless to resist. " ... "The whole world is in the midst of a war that seems the worst of all time. This Church is a worldwide church. Its devoted members are in both camps. They are the innocent war instrumentalities of their warring sovereignties. On each side they believe they are fighting for home and country and freedom. On each side, our brethren pray to the same God, in the same name, for victory. Both sides cannot be wholly right; perhaps neither is without wrong. God will work out in His own due time and in His own sovereign way the justice and right of the conflict, but He will not hold the innocent instrumentalities of the war, our brethren in arms, responsible for the conflict. This is a major crisis in the world-life of man. God is at the helm. " |
