What model of Lionel trains did Bed Bath and Beyond have last year? Question: I saw a train in Bed Bath and Beyond by Lionel Trains but they have different model this year. Does anyone know which model was in stores around this time of year? Answer: I can't find any reference to Lionel train on the corporate website. It must be in your local store. However I can link you to Lionel and let you shop from there. Here you go:http://www.lionel.com/ If you're considering getting into Model railroading, let me suggest these web sites as well: http://www.trains.com/trc/ http://www.nmra.com/ http://c arendt.us/ Please take time to at least look at the sites. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, buy a few model railroading magazines and see what's going on in the hobby. Total expense, about $12.00 You might also want to talk to your dad or someone who has, or had, trains. |

Can i get help on my lionel model o-27 new york central train? Question: hi yahoo, i need help. the other day i dug up my old train, and train accessories and decided to set it up. BUT, the coupling on the coal car is broken, so alas i can only run it with the locomotive. any ideas on how to fix this problem? Answer: You need to visit your friendly local Lionel retailer and purchase a set of die cast sprung trucks, p/n 6-14078. If they're not available locally, you can order them from any of the big mail order retailers, like Charles Ro. You then need to remove the tender shell-it comes off by one screw at the front. Then, drill or punch out the rivet holding on the rear truck, freeing it. Secure the replacement truck in place using the supplied self-tapping screw. Replace the tender shell, and you're done. |

I have a 1976 Lionel Train Set Model I am trying to value? Question: This train set was found in a storage unit that defaulted and I have no idea what it is even remotely worth. This is "The Black River Freight" model 6-1662. From what I have read this was only produced in 1976. Everything looks to be there with the exception of a few peices of track. I am having a garage sale this weekend and am curious if this is an item that should be sold or if it has value should it be auctioned off. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Answer: Try looking for "The Standard Catalog Of Lionel Trains, 1970-2000" at your library. It's got all the price information for sets, cars, anything that Lionel made in that era. |

Are the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Lionel Trains the same size as N-Gauge model trains? Question: Every Christmas for a long time now, I have been getting my father the Hallmark Keepsake Lionel Train ornaments. He loves trains and especially these ornaments. I was wondering if these ornaments were the same size as the N-Gauge model trains because I want to see if I can put these trains on N-Gauge track. If I could do this, I want to get my a track to put these trains. Any input would be great! Answer: Actually, the Hallmark ornaments are not all constructed to the same gage. I happened to have some Hallmark ornaments, some N-scale track and a measuring caliper sitting on my computer desk, so I did some quick tests on several. My results: Year 2006 ornaments - The "Veranda Stockcar" has wheels set at 8mm gage and were close enough to actually roll along N gage tracks (9mm). The "Veranda Turbine" and "Veranda Tender" have wheels set at 6mm gage and would not roll on N gage track. Year 2005 ornaments - "Pennsylvania B6 Steam" has 8mm gage wheels and will roll on N Gage track. The "Tender" and the "Boxcar" both have 10mm gage wheels and will not fit. The caboose has 9-mm gage and is close enough that the wheels could be slid inward a bit and allow the car to roll. I suspect that a skilled model enthusiast could fit normal N-gage wheels to these cars and make them roll pretty good, but this would diminish the collectors value. Year 2001 ornaments - The "Chessie Steam" and "Chessie Tender" both have 8 mm gage wheels and will roll on N gage track. However, the Steam engine has no sideways swivel motion and will not go around curved track. Year 1998 Ornament - "Pennsylvania GG-1" has 8mm gage wheels and will roll on N-gage track. However, it has no sideways swivel motion and will not go around curved track. So, it looks like there is some variation in the wheel gage, and some but not all Hallmark Ornaments can roll on N Gage track. You might want to check each individual ornament before going out and buying any track. |
